Update on drainage work between La Hure Mare and Summerfield Road, St Sampson's

HSS- Summerfield Road

As part of Guernsey Water's ongoing drainage improvement project around St Sampson Harbour the junction between La Hure Mare and Summerfield Road will be closed until Friday, 14 December.

Summerfield Road will then remain closed until late-January, but La Hure Mare will re-open to traffic when the junction is re-opened. Guernsey Water does not anticipate that Summerfield will open to through traffic over the Christmas period, although the site works will be closed down.

This is the third phase of four in Guernsey Water's St Sampson Harbour project and part of the utility's £5 million investment to improve the drainage around this area.

The upgraded gravity sewers will divert flows from an overloaded part of the network which will help reduce the risk of flooding and prevent water quality issues in the area.

Mark Walker, capital delivery manager, for Guernsey Water said:  "We have now installed approximately 340 metres of sewer up to 7 metres deep.

"We are pleased to say that following removal of a rock outcrop within the trench, it's all progressing very well and although we have another 135 metres of sewer to install along Summerfield Road the most difficult section is now complete.

"I'd like to thank the commercial businesses, particularly those who operate heavy trucks in and out of this area, for their ongoing patience.  They have had to endure disruption having to use alternative access points but they have all been extremely amenable and understanding which is a tremendous help.  Now this section of the work is complete vehicles will once again have access to La Hure Mare Road."

The final phase of the project (phase four) is the refurbishment of St Sampson Harbour pumping station which is scheduled to begin next Spring and is estimated to take approximately eight months to complete.

Guernsey Water apologies for any inconvenience to residents and businesses in the area and assures that every effort will be made to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
