Saving Water
In a changing climate, as an island that relies solely on rainfall for its water, it has never been so important to be mindful of our water use.
Despite what can feel like endless rain at times, we have a limited amount of water storage on island, this is spread across 14 reservoirs holding a combined total of around 4,349 million litres of water when full.
This number may seem large, but is actually under a year’s worth of water for the island! And though we may be fine for one exceptionally dry year, if water storage does not reach 100% again during the winter, water resources are at high risk heading into another summer.
Saving water doesn’t only help protect the island’s water resources, it can also help save you money on your bill, and help the environment, less water being used means less water needs to be treated and pumped, reducing energy consumption and chemical use.
We can all play our part in saving water, if you all save a little, together we save a lot.
