Refill

Refill Guernsey was launched in 2018 as a joint initiative between Guernsey Water and Guernsey Waste, following a presentation to the States of Guernsey's Environment and Infrastructure Committee by Destiny Hollyer-Hill.

Refill aims to reduce plastic waste by providing islanders and visitors alike with free access to tap water, at the end of 2025, over 70,000 litres had passed through Guernsey Water’s public stations, that’s the equivalent to 140,000 500ml bottles of water!

As well as making use of one of Guernsey Water’s eight public refill stations, you can also top up for free at many businesses across the island, just keep an eye out for the Refill Sticker!

Across the island there are now seven permanent stations located at: The Liberation Monument, KGV, Millennium Walk, Portelet, Bordeaux, The Bathing Pools and Cobo Bay. During times where larger public events are taking place, temporary stations are also installed on request where possible.

The refill stations aim to provide Islanders and visitors easier access to the public water supply whilst also reducing single-use plastic bottle waste.

Does the site's plumbing comply with Water Byelaws (Guernsey) Ordinance? These Byelaws ensure drinking water quality across the island is not compromised by substandard plumbing.

Do you know where your plumbing runs on the site? This can help you make the most cost-effective choice for refill station position!

Is your proposed station WRAS approved? Using WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approved equipment means your station will meet byelaw standards!

Do you have site owner's permission, and is planning permission required? We advise speaking directly with planning to check.

Know your water pressure. This could affect which station you choose, or whether you need to carry out any works to alter the pressure before installation.

Cleaning. Regular cleaning is important to ensure water quality remains tip top. Check out manufacturer's instructions for guidance.

Water quality testing should be carried out before water is made available to the public. Testing can be carried out for a small charge by the States Analytical Laboratory.
Changing filters. If your station has a filter, it will need changing at least as frequently as manufacturer's instructions.

Carrying out a site inspection. Helping you to ensure plumbing is compliant with Guernsey's Water Byelaws.

Sharing the details of our water testing. Helping you to develop your own testing schedule and understand test results.
