GUERNSEY WATER LAUNCHES HEALTH AND SAFETY HANDBOOKS
As part of Health and Safety Week, Guernsey Water is launching new handbooks on health and safety and adding a ‘Health & Safety’ section to its website.
The handbooks, titled ‘Your Health and Safety’, have two versions - one for employees of the business and the other for contractors working with the business. The content covers everything from confined spaces and personal protective equipment to working at height and with asbestos.

GUERNSEY WATER ENCOURAGES WINTER CARE
Guernsey Water is asking customers to take care of their pipework and oil tanks during the winter, to avoid problems with leakages or spills.
An information leaflet has been created by the utility which gives advice on avoiding potential problems when the temperatures start to drop.

ISLANDERS ENCOURAGED TO BE 'WATER WISE'!
Guernsey Water is encouraging Islanders to think carefully about their water
consumption and consider simple but effective ways to reduce water wastage.
The utility recently carried out an online survey to gather information about the public’s water usage habits and to ascertain whether there were any examples of water wastage which could be addressed.

In order to point people in the right direction in terms of sensible water usage, Guernsey Water has put together an 'action sheet' which describes simple ways to reduce water wastage, and the reductions this could lead to on your water and wastewater bills.

GUERNSEY WATER TO INSTALL WATER MAIN IN ST SAVIOURS RESERVOIR
Guernsey Water will shortly be commencing an innovative project to install a bypass main on the bed of the St Saviour’s reservoir.
The project was conceived as a result of an Island-wide risk assessment of the water infrastructure, which demonstrated the need for a pipe to divert streamflow away from the reservoir in the event of the incoming raw water not being of the usual high quality.

BELLE GREVE WASTEWATER PROJECT REACHES TENDER STAGE
Guernsey Water will shortly be going out to tender in order to appoint the most suitable contractor for the Belle Greve inlet works project.
The project, which is due to commence early in 2012 once the States of Deliberation has approved the tender choice, involves replacing the existing inlet facility with a new treatment plant that will remove grit and other non-biodegradable material through the use of state-of-the art mechanical screens.

KEEP DOGS ON LEADS AT MILLENNIUM WALK
Guernsey Water and Environment Guernsey are reminding people who use the Millennium Walk at St Saviour’s reservoir to ensure that dogs are kept on leads at all times.
Despite a number of signs around the length of the walk, a number of people are still ignoring these warnings and letting their dogs run free. This could jeopardise the delicate balance of nature that is prevalent at the Millennium Walk.

2010 SUCCESSFUL FOR GUERNSEY WATER
Guernsey Water has once again reached its set targets for water quality, storage levels, leakage and customer satisfaction, as noted in its 2010 Annual Report.
The report highlights a number of successes enjoyed by the business during 2010. Overall water compliance against the strict criteria set by the UK’s Drinking Water Inspectorate reached 99.75%, with over 7,000 samples taken during the year. Although this figure is slightly down on 2009’s excellent figure, it is still high enough to stand comparison with anywhere in the UK and Europe.

GUERNSEY WATER ON THE MOVE
Guernsey Water will be leaving its premises at South Esplanade and relocating to a new operational depot in St Andrews.
The business, which is a unit of the Public Services Department, will be centralising all of its staff and functions into ‘Brickfield House’, the newly-constructed depot which is located at the old Brickfield/Best quarry site.

WATER CHARGES FOR 2011
Guernsey Water has released their water charges for 2011 for both metered and unmetered customers. The fixed standing charge for all unmetered customers and all domestic metered customers will remain the same at £25.00 per quarter, while the variable elements of the charge have seen a slight increase.
