Islanders warned not to put oils and fat down the sink

In the run up to Christmas, Guernsey Water is reminding islanders to be extra vigilant about what they put down their sinks to avoid causing serious blockages.

Fats, greases and oils from cooking and even soups and other food waste that are disposed of down the sink can cause sewers to block and pumps to fail, potentially leading to sewage leaks onto the streets, or even within the home.

Be Careful What You Put Down the Drain!

Guernsey Water is advising people to be careful what they put down the drain in order to avoid sewer blockages which could lead to sewage flooding.

An information flyer has been put together (click here) which demonstrates the problems that blocked sewers can cause, and advises what can safely be put down the drain.
