The results from Guernsey Water's survey on tap water v bottled water are now in - you can read the full analysis by clicking here.
The idea of the campaign was to promote the quality of our drinking water and to try and encourage restaurants, hotels and bars to be more forthcoming in offering free tap water to customers.
Customers appeared to agree with us - 77% felt that the quality of our tap water is either 'Excellent' or 'Good', while 88% of respondents drink tap water on a regular basis. A significant 95% of responses stated that local establishments should be more forthcoming in offering tap water to customers, rather than the usual bottled water.

DRAIN RAINWATER FROM OIL CATCHMENT PITS
Guernsey Water is reminding customers with domestic oil tanks to make sure that rainwater is drained from the catchment pits on a regular basis.
Catchment pits are a legal requirement for all single skinned oil tanks, and it is vital that suitable steps are taken to ensure that the effective capacity of the pit is not reduced by the accumulation of rainwater, as this could result in oil spillages which are detrimental to the environment.

WRAP UP YOUR PIPES
Guernsey Water is advising customers to wrap up the pipework in their property in order to prevent leaks and bursts during the cold winter weather. With temperatures dropping throughout the UK, and snow beginning to fall in some areas, Andrew Redhead, director of water services, gave this advice:
“We always advise customers to use lagging on internal and external pipework and taps in order to prevent any cold-related problems. Even wrapping a towel or rag around a garden tap will go some way to preventing the water freezing and expanding."
