Millennium Walk
The Millennium Walk around St Saviour's Reservoir was opened in 2001.
The 3km long nature trail was created by Guernsey Water, in consultation with environmental groups and other users, to enable the public to enjoy the environment and wildlife that surround the reservoir. Environment Guernsey (a company set up by La Societe Guernesiaise) is employed to help look after the Millennium Walk.
This valuable island habitat is carefully managed to ensure the area can be enjoyed by both the resident wildlife and the public. Careful planting has ensured that screening is provided between the path and the water's edge to minimise the impact on wildlife. Wardens help to ensure that the walk is not misused, the paths are clear of vegetation and litter and there is no disturbance to the wildlife. Dog owners are required to keep dogs on leads and bins are provided so that people are encouraged not to leave litter.
Interpretation boards can be found in each of the car parks and provide information on the abundant flora and fauna to be found at St Saviour's Reservoir and a number of brass rubbing plaques have been placed around the walk depicting the wildlife.
Information Leaflet - Discovering the Millennium Walk
In association with Environment Guernsey and the Biological Records Centre, Guernsey Water have put together an information leaflet on the Millennium Walk, and its many attractions. The leaflet is intended for use for both visitors and locals, and has been printed out and distributed across the Island. If you would like a hard copy, please contact us on 724552.
Alternatively, you can download a copy of the leaflet by clicking here. A high-resolution electronic version of the leaflet can be obtained from our offices by contacting the same number.
Images of the Millennium Walk can be found in our Gallery.
Millennium Walk Monthly Reports
Each month the Environment Guernsey wardens send a report to Guernsey Water, detailing the state and usage of the Walk, the weather over the month and the impact this has had on the reservoir water level and the wildlife, as well as general observations about plant and animal life within the Walk and reservoir.
