H&S Introduction

Guernsey Water

The implementation of strict but sensible health and safety procedures is particularly important for an organisation like Guernsey Water where staff are dealing with dangerous chemicals, automated machinery and outside working in all weathers on a daily basis. Guernsey Water has a responsibility to protect and care for its staff, contractors and the general public, and we take this very seriously.

'Nothing is so important that we cannot take the time to do it safely.'

Documentation

Guernsey Water has written a number of documents on the subject of health and safety, and these are all available to view and download below:

Health and Safety Policy

This document outlines the organisation's strategic approach to health and safety, and describes the roles of those within the organisation who have responsibility for safe working. (Please note that this document is due to be superceded shortly).

H&S Guide - Employees

H&S Guide - Contractors

These documents act as an attractive and instructive handbook for our employees and contractors who work with us on health and safety matters. High resolution and printed copies are available from the office.

Safe Working Procedures Manual

This document gives more specific procedures for safe working by listing the many tasks carried out by Guernsey Water staff which could pose a risk to a person's health and safety, and describing the steps that need to be taken to avoid this risk.

Procedures for Working in Confined Spaces

This document is fairly self-explanatory and covers the risk of working in confined spaces, which are encountered regularly by Guernsey Water staff.

Leptospirosis

This document acts as a safety sheet for employees who may be at risk of contracting Leptospirosis, a disease found in polluted water and sewage.
