Pumping station at Gele Road is back in action

Gele Road Pumping Station

Ongoing improvements to the wastewater pumping station at the Richmond end of Vazon are now 99% complete with the station back in full operation.

The refurbishment which started in November 2017 has involved installing chemical resistant liners to five chambers, installing a third pump to supplement the existing two, together with replacing the panels that power the station and allow control of its overall operation.

Mark Walker, Capital Delivery Manager, Guernsey Water said: "This project is part of our continued commitment towards protecting the environment by providing effective and efficient drainage solutions.

"The refurbishment was necessary because of hydrogen sulphide within the sewage attacking the concrete structures and steel components - mainly the covers which have also been replaced.

"At the same time we took the opportunity to enhance the 'intelligent' control of the station by including an enhanced motor control centre panel, which will help with blockage reduction and efficiency.

"The upgraded pumping station will greatly improve drainage resilience and reliability in the area."
