Redundant water quality kit donated to aid Eleanor Foundation in Tanzania

WQ testing kit

The Water Quality team at Guernsey Water has been giving some of their redundant testing kit a bit of a makeover so that it can be used to test the quality of drinking water in Tanzania.

The kit is in good working order but has been superseded by equipment that is now much better suited to monitoring the public water supply in Guernsey. This contribution in kind will help support the water points work of the Eleanor Foundation.

Steve Langlois, our General Manager is about to embark on a self-funded trip to see first hand how the work of the Eleanor Foundation in Tanzania is transforming the lives of whole communities. In this photo he is being trained by Mike De Carteret, one of our Water Quality Scientists in how to use the water quality testing kit that we will be donating.

Whilst there Steve will be part of a small Eleanor Foundation team that plans to test the quality of some of the water points that they have installed; the team will also be investigating whether an ongoing programme of testing can be established.

Steve said; "In Guernsey this is something that we take for granted, as our infrastructure makes daily testing to make sure our water is safe and good to drink comparatively simple. In Tanzania the logistical and environmental challenges are considerable, plus there are very few available resources to support it. Nevertheless, this is a challenge that the Eleanor Foundation team are eager to take on".

In the coming week or so we hope to provide further update on their progress, so watch this space. For more information you can also follow the Eleanor Foundation's own Facebook page here
